How to Measure Curtains

Accurate measurements help your custom curtains fit beautifully. Measure your rod or track first, then use the guide below to record the width and drop for your order.

Before You Start

  • Use a metal tape measure for the most accurate result.
  • Install your curtain rod or track before measuring whenever possible.
  • Measure in centimetres or metres and enter the same unit consistently.
  • For bay windows, corner windows, or extra-wide openings, measure each section separately.

Step 1: Measure Your Window/Door

Step 2: Determine the Curtain Panel Width

Use your rod or track width, chosen fullness, and the number of panels to calculate the width of each curtain panel.

Per-panel width: Rod or track width x Fullness / Panel quantity

Flat Top

For grommet, rod-pocket, and flat-panel curtains, use the per-panel formula above.

Pleated Top

For pinch pleat or Euro pleat curtains, use the same formula. Choose 2.0x fullness for double pleats or 2.5x fullness for triple pleats.

Ripple Fold

Use the same formula for the finished top width. When hung, the bottom width is approximately 2.0x the top width.

Planning a new rod or track? Start with your window width, then allow 6-15 inches on each side for curtain stack space.

Bottom curtain length guide: 1/2 inch above the floor, kiss the floor, and 2-4 inch puddling

Choose Your Bottom Finish

  • Floating: finish about 1 cm above the floor for easy cleaning.
  • Kissing the floor: finish at floor level for a clean, tailored appearance.
  • Puddling: add approximately 5-10 cm for a relaxed, decorative look.
